    Etidronic acid

Etidronic acid, also known as HEDP (1-Hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid), is a non-nitrogenous bisphosphonate used in various applications, including medical treatments, detergents, water treatment, and cosmetics

HEDP is also known as etidronic acid, which exhibits multifunctional properties including scale inhibition and corrosion inhibition. It is an excellent complexing agent for metal ions such as iron, copper and zinc. It exhibits good chemical stability under high pH value. In addition, it is difficult to hydrolyze and decompose under normal light and heat conditions.

    Applications

    1. Medical Use: Used to treat osteoporosis and Paget’s disease of bone by inhibiting bone resorption.
    2. Detergents: Functions as a water softener and corrosion inhibitor in cleaning products.
    3. Water Treatment: Prevents scale and corrosion in cooling systems, boilers, and other industrial processes.
    4. Cosmetics: Acts as a stabilizer and chelating agent in personal care products.
